Production Laborer

About the Role

Under the immediate supervision of a supervisor, the laborer performs at a basic level a variety of manual labor tasks in the mine and/or surface operations, with emphasis on heavy equipment and reclamation duties as assigned. This role ensures machinery and safety equipment are in good working order and maintains high housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic manual labor tasks such as shoveling salt, cleaning floors, and assisting operators with belt conveyors and crushers (start/stop, grease, clean).
  • Occasionally operate heavy mining equipment (loaders, drills, telehandlers, etc.).
  • Handle explosives and use hand drills as required.
  • Assist with skilled operations jobs (e.g., drilling holes, assisting powderman, hand scaling) for training and future qualification.
  • Perform routine cleanup of designated areas.
  • Identify hazards, unsafe actions, or conditions that could impact safety, property, or the environment.
  • Inspect work areas for safety hazards and mitigate risks.
  • Clean salt spillage under conveyor belts and along walkways, requiring climbing ladders, bending, twisting, and lifting.
  • Assist in loading explosives (e.g., lifting 50-pound bags of ANFO, pouring into holes).
  • Operate skid steers and support equipment, including refueling and maintenance tasks.
  • Assist mechanics with major repairs and perform minor maintenance using hand tools.
  • Assist equipment operators in hanging cables, curtains, or support equipment at heights up to 35 feet.
  • Direct equipment operators in hazardous areas using verbal communication and hand signals.
  • Hand scale loose ribs using a scaling bar, requiring lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • Work productively in a team environment and treat colleagues with dignity and respect.

Requirements

  • High degree of attention to safety to prevent injury to self and coworkers.
  • Ability to work safely in varying temperatures (underground mine and outdoor environments year-round).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds regularly.
  • Must wear required PPE: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, and high-visibility clothing.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends, as necessary.
  • Ability to work at heights when needed.
  • Ability to work different shifts.
  • Typically requires less than 2 weeks of training to qualify.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Must be permitted to possess/handle explosives and submit an ATF employee possessor questionnaire.

Work Environment

The role operates in an underground mine and/or surface operations, exposing the employee to dust, dirt, fumes from blasting and equipment, noise, temperature variations, and equipment vibration due to uneven and sloping floors.
