Production Helper - 2nd shift

About the Role

The Production Helper assists workers in the fabrication of structural or metal products by performing various support duties and tasks, particularly in the electric utility transmission, substation, and distribution industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain performance standards and meet production and quality expectations.
  • Lift, position, and remove workpieces from machines to assist in fitting and welding.
  • Load, stack, and transport stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
  • Clean and scrape metal in fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping areas; clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Pick up scraps from work areas; load and unload trucks.
  • Grind burrs from holes on various parts and sharp corners from material.
  • Assist fellow employees as directed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-6 months of experience, preferably in a manufacturing plant or warehouse.
  • Experience in the steel industry and/or galvanizing is a plus.
  • Ability to become forklift and overhead crane certified and operate both.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electric and pneumatic hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills for standardized situations involving concrete variables.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication in English, both reading and writing.
  • Good attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to work required overtime.
  • Ability to follow instructions and the Leadsman’s directions.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 4:30 PM - 3:00 AM; Saturday as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Maximum shop exposure.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • No travel required.

Physical Demands

This position requires long hours of standing, squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, being near moving equipment, and exposure to changes in temperature or humidity, including dust, fumes, or gases.
