About the Role

Under the direction of the Value Stream Manager with frequent guidance from a Team Leader, this position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks critical to executing the safe operation of highly automated manufacturing equipment in accordance with company guidelines and customer requirements. Performance of these tasks impacts the Safety, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of the plant production lines. The plant operates continuously 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Schedule

  • 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM (with overtime options: 5:00 AM–3:00 PM or 7:00 AM–5:00 PM)
  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 2:50 PM–12:50 AM (4x10-hour shifts; overtime on Friday as needed)
  • 3rd Shift: Monday night 9:00 PM–7:00 AM Friday (4x10-hour shifts; overtime with Sunday night start)

Pay

  • 1st Shift: $23.69/hour
  • 2nd Shift: $24.19/hour (includes $0.50 shift differential)
  • 3rd Shift: $24.69/hour (includes $1.00 shift differential)

Armstrong’s pay scale includes progression opportunities:

  • Level 1-1: $23.69
  • Level 1: $26.12
  • Level 1.5: $27.27*
  • Level 2: $28.54*
  • Level 3: $31.32*
  • Level 4: $35.12*
  • Level 4.5: $36.84**
  • Level 5: $39.33**
  • Level 6: $41.47**

*Requires meeting progression guidelines. **Requires internal interview process for leadership roles.

Additional compensation includes annual incentive bonus and merit increase opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Safely start up, operate, and shut down production equipment, including periodic lockout/tag-out procedures for clearing line jams or machine repairs.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures; participate in the Hilliard safety system.
  • Perform basic operator maintenance checks on production equipment to ensure the line produces quality product safely.
  • Conduct quality inspections of products to meet standards, minimize rework, and contain non-conforming materials.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to daily production schedules.
  • Make production entries into computer systems.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards by keeping assigned work areas and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Perform material handling of raw materials, goods in process, and finished goods safely.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the production lead or management.

Process Overview

The ceiling tile manufacturing process includes running and monitoring machines that cut, size, paint, and package ceiling tiles, as well as shipping finished products to customers. Employees are responsible for maintaining orderly, clean, and safe work areas. Safety is the top priority, with well-defined start-up and shut-down procedures for all equipment.

Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, grabbing, pulling, carrying, and climbing stairs/catwalks.
  • Dusty, non-climate-controlled environment with exposure to fiberglass and other dusty materials.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to rotate through all core positions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2+ years of prior industrial or warehouse experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with lean/process improvement preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in core production roles within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to earn and maintain forklift certification.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision while balancing people and tasks in a team environment.
