Product Manager / Owner
About the Role
We're looking for a Product Manager / Owner to bridge the gap between our customers and our engineers. You'll lead discovery conversations, uncover what customers truly need (beyond what they say they want), and translate those insights into clear, actionable user stories for the engineering team. This is not a ticket-triage role—you'll own the entire process from identifying customer pain points to delivering a prioritized, ready-to-build spec.
You'll report directly to our Chief Product Officer, handling feature requests from leadership and support, and tackling ambiguous or high-stakes problems. You'll also help shape how our product function operates, defining standards for discovery, story writing, and prioritization. As the team grows, you'll play a key role in hiring and onboarding new product team members.
Responsibilities
- Run discovery with customers through interviews, working sessions, demos, and informal conversations to uncover the real problems behind their requests.
- Tackle ambiguous initiatives where the solution isn’t yet clear, taking ownership of high-stakes decisions.
- Write clear, detailed user stories with acceptance criteria that engineers can build from without repeated clarification.
- Own and prioritize the backlog, sequencing work based on value, dependencies, and effort in collaboration with engineering.
- Shape the product playbook by defining how discovery, story writing, and prioritization work at HomeSource, setting standards for the team.
- Help grow the product team by participating in hiring, onboarding, and establishing performance standards for new team members.
- Stay engaged through delivery, participating in sprint planning, refinement, standups, and addressing mid-sprint questions.
- Validate that what ships aligns with the customer’s original ask.
- Travel on-site to customers when in-person collaboration is necessary.
Requirements
- 5+ years in a product, business analyst, or equivalent role, with experience carrying software through full delivery cycles.
- Expert-level requirement gathering, including uncovering unarticulated customer needs.
- A track record of translating technical and business requirements into Agile user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
- Comfort working independently and collaborating across engineering, design, QA, and other product teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Agile/Scrum, including backlogs, refinement, and sprint planning.
- Technical fluency to engage with engineers without needing every concept translated.
- Clear writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt between customer and engineering conversations.
- Willingness to travel on-site to customers as needed.
Nice to Have
- Experience in appliance, furniture, or home goods, or adjacent retail/manufacturing industries.
- Proficiency with Jira, multi-tenant SaaS, epic and dependency-ordered story breakdowns, or product discovery frameworks.
Why HomeSource?
- Shape the product’s future: You won’t compete for engineering time—what you scope gets built, and you’ll help define how the product function grows, including hiring decisions.
- Direct access to leadership: You’ll report directly to the Chief Product Officer, ensuring your voice is part of high-level product conversations.
- Hybrid work: Two days a week in our Marlton office, with flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time, plus on-site customer travel when needed.
- Growth and modern tools: Competitive salary, career advancement opportunities, and access to cutting-edge technologies.
- Visible impact: Since 2011, HomeSource has simplified data aggregation for retailers and manufacturers. Your work will ship quickly, and you’ll see the results firsthand.
