Product Lifecycle Mechanical Engineer, DCE - Mechanical Products & Services (MPS)
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. This role involves solving complex problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers.
About the role
Within AWS Infrastructure Services and Data Center Engineering, the Mechanical Products & Services (MPS) team drives rapid innovation in Mechanical Cooling and Controls systems. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own and continuously improve Mechanical (Cooling) infrastructure products within AWS’s expanding data center footprint. This role focuses on the sustaining or product lifecycle engineering of advanced cloud infrastructure solutions.
You will collaborate with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers, support operations through failure analysis and troubleshooting, and work on concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones. Intermittent travel (~30%) is required, including some international travel.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong engineering judgment and recommendations despite uncertainty.
- Work with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers to build trust and relationships.
- Support operations, including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating procedure reviews.
- Listen to customer feedback to identify improvements for product reliability or availability.
- Collaborate with suppliers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis.
- Contribute to a global body of knowledge and drive continuous improvement at scale.
- Understand and explain complex mechanical systems clearly and concisely.
- Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 4+ years of experience developing Mechanical and/or Mechanical Cooling Products and launching them into production.
- 4+ years of project experience with cooling systems or components.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical components and systems in critical data center or mission-critical environments.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management and related systems.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and mass production.
- Ability to design for manufacturability, create assembly specifications, and work with contract manufacturers and OEMs.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.

The Mechanical Products & Services team provides engineering expertise and lifecycle support for mechanical equipment in AWS data centers globally. We own and support mechanical products throughout their lifecycle, including emergent global-scale remediation efforts and business improvement initiatives that enhance visibility and data-driven decision-making.

Pay
Base salary range: $116,800 – $160,000 USD annually (varies by location).
