AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Within AWS Infrastructure Services and Data Center Engineering, the Mechanical Products & Services (MPS) team drives rapid innovation in Mechanical Cooling and Controls systems used by AWS. Our designs fundamentally change the Data Center, providing operational and financial benefits critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers.
This role provides the opportunity to engage with and lead the Sustaining or Product Lifecycle Engineering aspect for advanced cloud infrastructure solutions. As a Global Amazon Product Lifecycle Engineer, you will provide Mechanical infrastructure support to AWS data centers, collaborate with product development teams, and serve as a global engineering resource for Mechanical AWS products. Intermittent travel (~30%) will be required, including some international travel.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong engineering judgment and recommendations despite uncertainty
- Work with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers to build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance)
- Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones
- Explain complex systems in clear and concise language
- Support Operations with failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating procedure review for mechanical and electrical issues
- Listen to customer feedback to identify improvements for product reliability or availability
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis
- Contribute to a global body of knowledge and drive continuous improvement at scale
- Engage in end-to-end lifecycle management of AWS Mechanical products, ensuring performance aligns with design intent and leading remediation efforts when needed
- Work with internal teams to identify design issues and remediate them by collaborating with design teams, vendors, and contract manufacturers
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of critical data center or mission-critical mechanical and electrical equipment
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical components and systems
- 4+ years of experience developing Mechanical and/or Mechanical Cooling Products and launching them into production
- 4+ years of project experience with cooling systems or components
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management and related systems
- Capability to understand detailed Mechanical equipment specifications and evaluate design change risks
- Experience leading product design of Mechanical products with an understanding of Mechanical Systems and manufacturability
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and mass production
- Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
- Experience designing for manufacturability, creating assembly specifications, and working with contract manufacturers and OEMs
About the team
The Mechanical Products & Services team provides engineering expertise and design and product lifecycle support for mechanical equipment in data centers globally. We support new products and design features addressing mechanical cooling systems in data center deployments and own mechanical products throughout their lifecycle. Our scope includes global-scale remediation efforts impacting Data Center capacity or availability and driving business improvement initiatives for data-driven decision-making.

Pay
Base salary ranges for this position:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, OH, Columbus: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, TX, Austin: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
Compensation includes sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave. Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
