Product Lifecycle Mechanical Engineer, DCE - Mechanical Products & Services (MPS)

About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. This role is within the Mechanical Products & Services (MPS) team, driving rapid innovation in Mechanical Cooling and Controls systems used by AWS. Our designs provide operational and financial benefits critical to AWS and its customers.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own and continuously improve Mechanical (Cooling) infrastructure products within AWS’s expanding data center footprint. You will collaborate with global teams to sustain and enhance these products throughout their lifecycle, acting as a key engineering resource for deployed AWS mechanical products. Intermittent travel (~30%) is required, including some international travel.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering judgment and recommendations despite uncertainty, with a detail- and data-oriented approach.
• Work with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers to build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance).
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones, explaining complex systems clearly and concisely.
• Support Operations with failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating procedure reviews for mechanical and electrical issues.
• Gather customer feedback to identify product improvements for reliability or availability.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis.
• Contribute to a global body of knowledge and drive continuous improvement at scale.
• Engage in product lifecycle engineering, ensuring products perform as designed and leading remediation efforts when issues arise.
• Work with internal teams to identify design issues and remediate them through collaboration with design teams, vendors, or contract manufacturers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Knowledge of critical data center or mission-critical mechanical and electrical equipment, with hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical components and systems.
• 4+ years of experience developing Mechanical and/or Mechanical Cooling Products and launching them into production.
• 4+ years of project experience with cooling systems or components.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and mass production.
• Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
• Experience designing for manufacturability, creating assembly specifications, and working with contract manufacturers and OEMs.

About the team

The Mechanical Products & Services team provides engineering expertise and lifecycle support for mechanical equipment in AWS data centers globally. We own and support mechanical products throughout their lifecycle, including new designs and features for cooling systems. The team also drives global remediation efforts impacting Data Center capacity or availability and introduces business improvement initiatives for data-driven decision-making.

Pay

Base salary ranges for this position:

• USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
• USA, OH, Columbus: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
• USA, TX, Austin: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
• USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
• USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
