About the role
We are currently seeking to hire a Product Engineer within our Specialty Materials business unit. This position will be based in Monroe, NC.
Responsibilities
- Manage the relationship and processes between external customers, sales, process engineering, and operations.
- Learn ATI's business culture, process, and products.
- Successfully manage interactions between internal and external groups.
- Possess a continuous improvement mindset.
- Review customer specifications and support sales teams by approving customer quotes.
- Create and implement items, recipes, mill instructions, and other quality system documents for Titanium and Specialty products.
- Review deviations and non-conformances and determine root causes to prevent recurrence.
- Support certifications and testing of Titanium and Specialty Steel orders and shipments.
- Become company and industry recognized metallurgical expert in Titanium and Specialty Steel and the manufacturing process of these alloys.
- Utilize Continuous Improvement tools throughout the manufacturing process of Titanium and Specialty Steel products, leading to increased yield, better quality, and reduced costs.
- Plan, execute, and manage product/process continuous improvement programs that support several Value Streams using Plan-Do-Check[1]Act approach.
- Propose and defend project concepts for new products, cost savings, quality improvement, and process innovation.
- Collaborate with technology and research colleagues across ATI.
- Provide technical support to sales, planning, operations, and quality on their function to facilitate the manufacture of product.
- Communicate results to management, colleagues, and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations.
- Maintain industry expertise and current knowledge of developments in Titanium and Specialty Steel metallurgy.
Qualifications
- BS in materials science engineering or related discipline.
- Process or product engineering experience related to Titanium and/or Specialty Steels.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of wrought processing (i.e., conventional melting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, conditioning, heat treatment, etc.).
Essential Skills
- Comfortable meeting with customers, presenting at technical meetings, and willing to travel (2-4 times per year).
- Enthusiastic, excited about tackling challenges, and comfortable with working in a continuous improvement environment.
- Strong technical background.
- Technical writing/oral presentation skills.
- Eager to become a technical expert & primary point of contact in area of responsibility.
- Comfortable being on the shop floor observing processes, providing guidance and interfacing with operators.
- Self-starter and able to work independently as well as on a team.
- Uses scientifically rigorous, data-driven approach to problem-solving.
- Able to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining composure and meeting established deadlines.
