About the role

As Senior Director of Card Platforms and Data, you’ll lead a talented, cross-disciplinary team of design leaders and designers, collaborating deeply with research teams and Product and Tech leadership. You’ll identify and advocate for high-leverage opportunities with executive stakeholders and lead high-impact, highly complex design projects that set the bar for experience excellence and business outcomes.

In this role, you will partner with senior leaders across offers, decisioning, authorizations, and customer management to ensure our associates can create card experiences customers and the business can love. You will bring simplicity and power to associate journeys and innovate to be best in class.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage established expertise and leadership in product design to elevate the quality and maturity of the design practice at Capital One.
  • Oversee and optimize the use of appropriate tools, platforms, frameworks, and design systems in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Enable your team to develop artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes.
  • Build a thriving community of designers who are well-supported, trained for excellence, and able to collaborate with peers across functions.
  • Set the vision and strategic direction for your team in close partnership with cross-functional partners.
  • Recognize and pursue opportunities where customer needs and business goals coincide.
  • Reinforce the importance of collecting and considering diverse customer perspectives throughout the design process.
  • Demonstrate mastery of products, processes, customers, competitors, and broader industry trends to predict shifts and shape design engagement.
  • Drive cross-functional groups in thinking creatively about potential solutions, illuminating pitfalls, and fostering shared learnings.
  • Build frameworks for complex decision-making that enable effective debate and accelerate getting to the right solutions.
  • Connect the dots across the organization, proactively bringing together executive partners to drive coherent experiences, accelerate delivery, and elevate the value of design.
  • Present work to executive leaders and stakeholders, modeling a strategic human-centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data, and research insights.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in product design or at least 10 years of experience managing product design teams.
  • At least 3 years of people management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 12 years of experience in leading product design teams or delivering products to market.
  • At least 5 years of people management experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading design strategy for internal platforms, enterprise software, or data-intensive associate tooling.
  • At least 2 years of experience leveraging emerging AI technology such as Gemini or Claude.
  • Experience applying design methodologies (such as service design blueprints, customer journey mapping, or design systems) to internal associate workflows or platforms.
  • Experience in a design toolkit that spans product design, service design, design strategy, or content design.
  • Experience leading product design teams operating across UX and UI, strategy, content, and research from strategy through delivery to market.
  • Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing, and analytics leaders across multiple business lines to shape strategy, performance metrics, roadmaps, and operating models.
  • Experience interfacing with executive leadership to solve problems, influence key decisions, and drive results across strategy, design, roadmaps, and investments.
  • Proficiency with web and mobile technologies and platforms, navigating technology considerations and constraints to drive sound product and experience decisions.
  • Proficiency in business case development, grounding product and user experience decisions to business value.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building across complex organizations.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results, and impact.

Pay

The annual full-time salary ranges for this role are:

  • McLean, VA: $269,600 - $307,700
  • New York, NY: $294,100 - $335,700

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).
