About the Role

The Procurement Team Lead will manage a work group responsible for procuring engineered equipment, commodities, permanent plant materials, and small tools and supplies. This is a "working manager" role that balances hands-on procurement execution with oversight, mentorship, and process improvement for Procurement Agents and Sr. Procurement Agents.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, evaluate, and mentor the procurement team to meet or exceed performance goals and expectations.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
• Oversee all aspects of procurement from pre-bid to closeout, including cost savings initiatives and process standardization.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation input for staff.
• Support the estimating department by obtaining budgetary quotations for materials and equipment.
• Represent the company in supplier contracts and policy formulation, negotiating terms with legal and senior management oversight.
• Manage the competitive bid process via Request for Proposals (RFP) or Request for Quotes (RFQ).
• Qualify and evaluate suppliers, leading aggregated sourcing events to drive procurement value.
• Collaborate on category strategy initiatives to improve margins and process efficiencies.
• Review supplier, procurement, and operational metrics to identify and address deficiencies.
• Ensure recommended awards align with decision models and Delegation of Authority policies.
• Develop and maintain mutually beneficial supplier relationships through Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).
• Analyze market trends and material availability to inform procurement strategies.
• Enforce procurement policies and procedures while overseeing financial planning, delivery schedules, and reporting.
• Develop and review procurement analytics, reporting, and deliverables.
• Oversee contract management instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Review materials for accuracy, manage the material review process, and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Oversee the use of third-party Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and manage return materials for timely project credit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical procurement experience.
• Thorough knowledge of electrical and construction industries.
• Ability to delegate, balance dual roles (manager and individual contributor), and work without supervision.
• Strong supervisory and mentorship skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.).
• Adaptability to process improvements and changing requirements under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and effective team player.
• Ability to work professionally with employees, management, vendors, clients, and others.

Working Conditions

• General office environment with prolonged sitting, standing, walking, typing, and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Primarily indoor work with varying environmental conditions (e.g., fluorescent lighting, air conditioning).
• Noise levels range from low to medium; can be loud on jobsites.
• Travel up to 10%.
