About the Role
The Procurement Team Lead is a 'working manager' role responsible for overseeing a team that procures engineered equipment, commodities, permanent plant materials, and small tools/supplies. This position balances hands-on procurement execution with leadership, mentorship, and process improvement to drive cost savings and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, evaluate, and mentor the procurement team to meet performance goals and compliance standards.
- Oversee all aspects of procurement from pre-bid to closeout, including competitive bidding via RFPs/RFQs.
- Manage people and projects within the assigned region to pursue cost savings and process standardization.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance evaluation input for Procurement Agents and Sr. Procurement Agents.
- Support the estimating department by obtaining budgetary quotations for materials and equipment.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers, consulting with corporate attorneys and senior management on risk and competitiveness.
- Qualify and evaluate suppliers, lead aggregated sourcing events, and collaborate on category strategy initiatives.
- Review supplier metrics, procurement analytics, and operational targets to identify and mitigate deficiencies.
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies, Delegation of Authority, and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM).
- Analyze market trends, material availability, and delivery systems to inform procurement decisions.
- Oversee financial planning, delivery schedules, procurement reporting, and invoice approval/resolution.
- Develop and implement procurement policies, contract management instructions, and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
- Review materials for accuracy, manage returns, and ensure timely project credits.
- Enter documentation into the purchasing system and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and A/P.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of electrical and construction industries.
- Ability to delegate, balance dual roles (manager and individual contributor), and work without supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and mentorship skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.) and adaptability to process improvements.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing requirements, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; self-motivated, proactive, and team-oriented.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical procurement experience.
Working Conditions
- General office environment with prolonged sitting, standing, walking, typing, and occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs).
- Primarily indoor work with varying conditions (e.g., fluorescent lighting, air conditioning).
- Noise levels range from low to medium (loud on jobsites).
- Travel up to 10%.
