Job Summary
Set up molds, start up/trouble shoot molding process. Fully capable to work on any molds and all auxiliary equipment. Work with trainee, as required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Start up molds that have been set by the Molding Technician, developing or modifying process parameters as needed
- Process mold to produce samples for First Piece Inspection, performing advanced troubleshooting as needed for dimensional or visual issues (flow marks, degradation, splay etc)
- Identify improvements to molding process for cavitation, cycle time and parts containment and implement while maintaining quality standards
- Pull and set molds as needed for production requirements
- Troubleshoot molding processes and make adjustments to ensure quality and efficiency
- Assist/Train Process Technician I in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of molding defects, as needed
- Able to identify tooling issues and submit detailed work order to tool room for repair
- Able to identify injection molding machine or auxiliary equipment issues and submit detailed work order to maintenance department for repair
- Provide and implement ideas to improve the efficiency of the molding department
- Communicate problems, needs and important information to supervisor
- Practice good housekeeping and appropriate measures to prevent pollution or other negative impacts on the environment
- Performs all documentation as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-5 years of experience working with molds (mold setting and injection mold processing) in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience troubleshooting injection molding processes
- Experience with forklift and pallet jack operation, preferred
- Knowledge of plastic materials and their processing characteristics
- Experience with computer controlled machines
- Experience with Engel and Sumitomo machines and robot operation, preferred
- Formal plastics injection molding training, preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read and understand work instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Use of hand tools and precision measuring/testing instruments
- Ability to climb up and down ladders frequently
