About the role
This position at the Battleground - LaPorte, Texas location shares responsibility with plant personnel for achieving site performance goals. Success is measured through attainment of technical and plant objectives and full accountability for Safety, Environment, Responsible Care, Quality, and Cost Control.
Responsibilities
- Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and or transport our products, as our highest priority.
- Ensure Process Safety and Risk Management objectives are practiced daily through participation in Management of Change, Process Hazards Analysis, Process Safety Hazard Hunter, and Pre-startup Safety Review responsibilities.
- Provide Chemical Commandment training and awareness to others as the opportunity arises.
- Provide attention to detail, and dedication to work in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as high quality product.
- Ensure that yourself and others are respected, supported and encouraged to grow and succeed in their job.
- Serve as an MOC Coordinator for the plant.
- Look for opportunities to share broad expertise with the plant.
- Recommend methods to improve the existing plant processes.
- Serve as a mentor to engineers in the plant with less experience or expertise.
- Provide technical expertise to reduce manufacturing costs and improve product quality.
- Identify new cost reduction ideas at least equivalent to your salary on an annual basis.
- Participate in the design and implementation of equipment and process improvements, material of construction improvements, and efficiency and cost control improvements.
- Assist with the identification, development, installation, and start-up of process improvements.
- Engineering assignments may include energy and material balance studies, process studies, and process equipment specifications and modifications.
- Provide assistance to operations including trouble shooting of operating problems, special tests, studies, and technical assistance as required, and assistance with production reporting and the monthly ‘accounting close’ process.
- Prepare AFEs for ‘plant scale’ capital projects and follow these projects to a successful completion.
- Review key process parameters daily. Generate key process parameters report periodically on the various plant unit operations.
- Review the status of Critical Success Factors on a monthly basis.
- Maintain a broad number of company and industry contacts.
- Share knowledge gained with plant personnel.
- Represent the Technical Supt/Manager in his/her absence at internal and external meetings.
- Exercise initiative and creativity in generating own assignments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with five (5) plus years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, and wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
- Ability to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of SAP.
