Probation and Parole Officer - District 5 Satellite

About the role

This position investigates offenders' home, work, and social environments for circuit courts and the Parole Board; collects, verifies, and evaluates data; incorporates findings into reports and records; assesses needs and risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management and public safety; and submits reports to designated legal authorities.

Responsibilities

• Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment, or confinement and counsels them regarding personal and adjustment problems
• Attends court to receive court assignments and make reports
• Assists in vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning for assigned offenders
• Cooperates with public and private agencies and law enforcement agencies
• Investigates offender violations and takes appropriate action including issuance of warrants
• Prepares statistical reports of activities
• Administers and observes breathalyzer and urinalysis testing
• Assists in special investigations, research projects, and other activities
• Serves on committees and task forces within the Department and community
• Performs other related work as assigned

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license
• Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re-qualify annually

Minimum experience

Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections.

OR

Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework or custody, law enforcement, guidance and counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public or business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities; AND possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Skills

As the employee becomes more experienced and demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general.

Pay

• $2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts beginning on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am at a 24/7 congregate care facility (institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center)
• $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential for full-time work at a qualifying facility
• $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential for regular assignment to a restrictive housing or segregation unit at any facility
• Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years

Schedule

Contingent upon position assignment. For transfers from another State of Missouri agency receiving state retention pay, retention pay is administered based upon the retention anniversary date and may differ from the previous agency until that date is reached.
