About the role

Responsibilities
- Investigates offender's home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board;
- Collects/verifies/evaluates data;
- Incorporates into reports and records;
- Affirms needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies;
- Sends reports to designated legal authorities;
- Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems;
- Attends court to receive court assignments/make reports;
- Aids in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders;
- Collaborates with public/private agencies and law enforcement agencies;
- Investigates offender violations;
- Takes appropriate action including issuance of a warrant;
- Prepares statistical reports of activities;
- Administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing;
- Aids in special investigations/research projects/other activities;
- Serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community;
- Performs other related work as assigned;
- As employee becomes more experienced/demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general.
Requirements
- Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections;
- Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities;
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license;
- Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re-qualify annually.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections. OR Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities; AND possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
- Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Pay
The Department of Corrections offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
Schedule
The Department of Corrections operates on a 24/7 schedule, with shifts beginning on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am. Employees assigned to these shifts may be eligible for additional differentials.
