About the role

Responsibilities

  • Investigates offender's home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board
  • Collects/verifies/evaluates data and incorporates into reports and records
  • Affirms needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies
  • Sends reports to designated legal authorities
  • Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems
  • Attends court to receive court assignments/make reports
  • Aids in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders
  • Cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement agencies
  • Investigates offender violations and takes appropriate action including issuing warrants
  • Prepares statistical reports of activities
  • Administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing
  • Assists in special investigations/research projects/other activities
  • Serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community
  • Performs other related work as assigned

Requirements

  • Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections
  • Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year

Skills

Knowledge of criminal justice systems, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computerized databases is preferred.

Pay

The department offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years. Additionally, there are various shift differentials based on the type of facility and shift worked.

Schedule

Shifts may vary, but typically include a mix of day, evening, and night shifts. Some positions may require working weekends or holidays.
