About the role
The Missouri Department of Corrections is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. This position involves investigating offender's home/work/social environments, collecting/verifying/evaluating data, assessing needs/risk levels, and submitting reports to legal authorities. It also includes contacting offenders, assisting in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning, and performing various administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Investigates offender's home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board
- Counsels offenders regarding personal/adjustment problems
- Attends court to receive court assignments/make reports
- Aids in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders
- Cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement agencies
- Investigates offender violations and takes appropriate action
- Prepares statistical reports of activities
- Administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing
- Assists in special investigations/research projects/other activities
- Serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community
- Performs other related work as assigned
Requirements
- Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections
- Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
- Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year
Skills
Must possess the ability to drive a vehicle and complete safety training including defensive tactics. Must be able to re-qualify annually.

Pay
The Department of Corrections offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
Schedule
The Department of Corrections offers a variety of shifts, including those that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, which may qualify for additional differentials.
