PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER 1,2, or 3--ADULT

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services Division of Probation & Parole – Adult seeks a Probation and Parole Officer to supervise and investigate criminal offenders while promoting public safety, accountability, and successful rehabilitation through probation, parole, and pardon services.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a supervisor and investigator for felony and misdemeanor offenders, ensuring compliance with conditions of probation and parole.
• Conduct criminal justice investigations and prepare reports and recommendations for courts, parole and pardon boards, and other criminal justice decision makers.
• Manage violations of probation and parole, participate in hearings, and enforce conditions.
• Coordinate offender placement in various support programs and provide crisis intervention and emergency assistance.
• Administer drug testing, supervise community service activities, and ensure compliance with ACA standards and agency policies.
• Assist with audits of facilities and CRCs, including applying defensive tactics and maintaining institutional safety and security.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialities apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
• Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
• Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license and willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

• An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Pay

• Special Entrance Rates: Probation and Parole Officer 1-Adult: $1,872.00 Bi-weekly; Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult: $2,003.20 Bi-weekly; Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult: $2,213.60 Bi-weekly.

Schedule

• Alternative work schedules, including 4/10’s, may be an available benefit for certain positions upon meeting the policy requirements.
