About the role

Responsibilities

  • Supervises offenders in various activities including housing units, educational, recreational, religious, and treatment programs.
  • Performs checks and counts, inspects housing units, and prepares reports on offender behavior and facility compliance.
  • Interviews offenders, verifies information, and coordinates with family members and employers.
  • Retrieves and enters information from databases, handles warrants, and assists with scheduling changes.
  • Maintains databases, inventory, and logs; troubleshoots equipment; and responds to emergency calls.
  • Supervises offender movements, intervenes in emergencies, and monitors medication usage.
  • Discusses minor issues and refers major problems to supervisors; promotes rehabilitation and discourages undesirable behaviors.
  • Administers substance abuse assessments and DNA sample collection; oversees visitor access and conducts searches.
  • Provides after-hours support; orders and maintains supplies; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 18 years old.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • May require successful completion of safety training and MULES training.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide emergency assistance.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice systems and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and databases.

Pay

  • $2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts between 12:00pm and 5:00am at 24/7 facilities.
  • $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential for full-time positions at qualifying facilities.
  • $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential for posts in segregation units.

Schedule

  • Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
