About the Role

The Department of Romance Languages seeks to build a pool of qualified applicants for instructional positions in French, Italian, and Spanish. Positions may include teaching lower and upper-division language and culture classes, as well as upper-division literature, culture, and linguistics courses. Potential courses may include:

  • First- and second-year language courses
  • Third-year language and culture courses
  • Introductory literature, culture, or linguistics courses (with appropriate credentials)
  • Advanced undergraduate seminars (with appropriate credentials)

Positions may also include supervision of multi-section language courses. These are limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Screening of applications will occur as positions become available.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in French, Italian, or Spanish at the lower and upper-division levels
  • Contribute to curriculum development, proficiency assessment, and/or heritage language teaching
  • Supervise multi-section language courses, if applicable
  • Support institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in the relevant Romance language or a related field
  • Professional-level proficiency (ACTFL Superior or equivalent) in both English and the target language
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful college-level teaching experience
  • Experience in curriculum development, proficiency assessment, heritage language teaching, and/or service learning
  • PhD for those teaching upper-division literature, culture, and linguistics courses (course numbers 315 and above)
