Pro Tem Instructor (German) - Open Pool

About the Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The German and Scandinavian Department focuses on modernity in German language contexts (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), and on Scandinavian cultures from medieval to modern. Areas of study include literary history, philosophical and theoretical discourses, Holocaust and memory studies, Environmental Humanities, film and media, visual culture, and folk traditions. The department maintains substantive links to other programs, including Philosophy, History, Judaic Studies, Art History, Music, English, Comparative Literature, Folklore, and Cinema Studies.

About the Role

The German and Scandinavian Department seeks to establish a pool of qualified candidates for Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications, instructors may teach undergraduate courses in German language and culture. Positions are limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Instructors are expected to provide high-quality instruction, maintain regular communication with students, and contribute to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

• Fluency in German.
• Master’s degree in German or a related field.
• One (1) year of post-secondary instructional experience.
