About the Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The Department of Physics is an instructional and research department within CAS that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields. The department includes approximately 35 teaching faculty, emeritus faculty, research staff, graduate students, and professional/administrative staff. The department enrolls approximately 2,000 students per term, with around 200 undergraduate Physics majors and 100 graduate students.

About the Role

The Department of Physics seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants for temporary instructional positions. Pro Tem Instructors may teach lower-division foundational physics courses as well as select upper-division courses, based on departmental needs and the qualifications of the instructor. Positions are limited duration appointments, potentially renewable up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower-division foundational physics courses.
• Teach select upper-division courses, depending on departmental needs and instructor qualifications.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Physics or related field.
• Experience teaching in Physics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics or related field.
