About the Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. Our faculty and advisors work closely with students to develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication skills to address real-world challenges.

Within CAS, Psychology is one of the largest departments, supporting significant instructional and research activities across four major areas: Clinical, Cognitive/Systems Neuroscience, Developmental, and Social-Personality. The Clinical doctoral program has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1958 and is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. The department values interdisciplinary collaboration, open and reproducible science, and features a Diversity Science emphasis area. Faculty engage in research collaborations with other UO departments, including Anthropology, Architecture, Biology, Data Science, Economics, Education, Human Physiology, Philosophy, and Physics.

About the Role

The Department of Psychology seeks to establish a pool of qualified candidates for Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs, instructors may teach undergraduate courses in areas such as introductory psychology, research methods, cognition, thinking, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, or clinical practica (Oregon psychology licensure required). Positions are limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Screening of applications will occur as positions become available.

• Teach undergraduate courses in assigned areas of psychology.
• Mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds.
• Contribute to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Psychology or a closely related field.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• University-level teaching experience.
• Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field.
• Experience with diverse teaching strategies and learning styles.
