About the Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The Department of Linguistics provides undergraduate and graduate degrees with a fundamental interest in the nature of language, how language is used, and how this use impacts language learning, processing, and structure over historical and developmental time. The department is also invested in the practical and interdisciplinary aspects of language, including its normal and disordered acquisition, teaching, maintenance, revitalization, loss, and its social impact.

About the Role

The Department of Linguistics seeks to establish a pool of qualified candidates for Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications, Pro Tem Instructors may teach lower or upper division undergraduate Linguistics courses covering a range of topics. Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower or upper division undergraduate Linguistics courses.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Linguistics or a related field.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field.
• Instructional experience with functional and cognitive linguistics, second language acquisition, and foreign language teaching methods.
