Position: Pro Tem Instructor (limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance)
About the Role
The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon seeks qualified candidates for a pool of Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications, instructors may teach lower or upper division undergraduate courses, as well as some graduate courses. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled.
Department Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS fosters a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The Creative Writing Program offers both a minor in creative writing and a Master of Fine Arts, emphasizing workshops, craft seminars, and the Kidd Tutorial Program—a unique studio experience for undergraduates.
Responsibilities
- Teach lower or upper division undergraduate courses in creative writing.
- Teach graduate-level courses as needed, based on qualifications and programmatic need.
- Engage in the workshop model and integrate craft seminars into instruction.
- Support the Kidd Tutorial Program and other undergraduate creative writing initiatives.
Requirements
- MFA or MA in creative writing.
- One (1) year of post-secondary instructional experience.
