PRN RN – Med/Surg & Observation Unit
About the Role
Join Cleveland Clinic’s South Pointe Hospital, a community-based teaching hospital known for quality patient-centered care and active community participation. This 41-bed unit is divided into two specialized areas: a 19-bed Medical-Surgical (MS) unit and a 22-bed Observation (Obs) unit.
- The MS unit provides broad nursing experience by caring for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious diseases, asthma, and COPD exacerbations.
- The Observation Unit offers a fast-paced environment focused on safe, high-quality care for adults requiring expedited evaluation and close monitoring for less than 24 hours. Nurses must be highly adaptable with strong assessment skills, as patient conditions can change rapidly.
As an RN on this team, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey, interact directly with patients and families, and provide healthcare education as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience.
- Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, may be considered with Chief Nursing Officer approval.
- Military RN experience will be considered.
- Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the AHA or American Red Cross upon or within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Physical Requirements
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay
Pay range for new hires: $43.00 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of benefits.
Schedule
PRN (as needed) variable shifts. You must work 48 hours within a six-week period.
