Job Description
REPORTS TO: Retail Pharmacy Pharmacists
- Prepare all prescription medications for dispensing.
- Accurately interpret and process prescription information through appropriate computer system.
- Remove stock bottles from shelves and count out appropriate medications.
- Label all necessary containers for prescription dispensing.
- Ensure prescriptions are checked by a pharmacist before being released to a patient.
- Maintain and generate patient reports and records through the applicable computer system.
- Maintain appropriate prescription records.
- Maintain adequate medication inventories and pharmacy supplies.
- Order, receive, unpack, record, and store all medications and pharmacy supplies, as well as file invoices appropriately.
- Contribute to the effective operation of the pharmacy department by accurately interpreting prescription information and recording patient information, medications, allergies, and third party information.
- Conduct inventory of all medication as required, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Manage workflow, assist the pharmacist, and maintain daily filing and orderly maintenance of prescription hard copies, invoices from distributors, and any necessary reports.
- Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attending continuing education programs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Pharmacy technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
- One to two years of retail pharmacy experience preferred but not required
- Computer keyboard knowledge and literacy (typing 45-50 words per minute)
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Bilingual recommended
