PRN Retail Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

REPORTS TO: Retail Pharmacy Pharmacists

• Prepare all prescription medications for dispensing.
• Accurately interpret and process prescription information through appropriate computer system.
• Remove stock bottles from shelves and count out appropriate medications.
• Label all necessary containers for prescription dispensing.
• Ensure prescriptions are checked by a pharmacist before being released to a patient.
• Maintain and generate patient reports and records through the applicable computer system.
• Maintain appropriate prescription records.
• Maintain adequate medication inventories and pharmacy supplies.
• Order, receive, unpack, record, and store all medications and pharmacy supplies, as well as file invoices appropriately.
• Contribute to the effective operation of the pharmacy department by accurately interpreting prescription information and recording patient information, medications, allergies, and third party information.
• Conduct inventory of all medication as required, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Manage workflow, assist the pharmacist, and maintain daily filing and orderly maintenance of prescription hard copies, invoices from distributors, and any necessary reports.
• Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attending continuing education programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current Pharmacy technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
• One to two years of retail pharmacy experience preferred but not required
• Computer keyboard knowledge and literacy (typing 45-50 words per minute)
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Bilingual recommended
