PRN Recovery Support Staff (RSS) - Nights

About the role

The Recovery Support Staff (RSS) plays a crucial role in supporting clients recovering from alcohol or substance abuse. They assist with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization. RSSs are responsible for maintaining a therapeutic environment and ensuring client and staff safety.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Q30s and 1:1 sessions according to hospital standards
• Ask for assistance when other tasks take priority
• Ensure there are no gaps in observations
• Participate in treatment engagement by identifying patients' problems, needs, and strengths
• Suggest modifications to the treatment plan based on observations of patients' behavior
• Co-facilitates didactic, educational, and community groups
• Communicate information about patients' behavior to other members of the treatment team
• Take direction from RN or LVN
• Float to any unit as needed
• Maintain boundaries with patients and employees
• Observe patients for behavioral changes and work on de-escalation
• Notify RN to evaluate and assess changes in patient behavior
• Respond to all codes
• Speak to patients respectfully, recognizing the need for patience and tact
• Provide input during shift reports
• Supervise patients to ensure their safety and involvement in treatment
• Orient new patients to the program and milieu
• Carry out general nursing assistance as assigned and supervised by the nurse in charge
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic physical environment for patients
• Perform clerical/administrative assignments to support the patient
• Participate in activities that enhance professional growth and development

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED
• Current valid driver's license
• Prior experience in mental health and/or recovery support in an inpatient setting (preferred)
• Approved CPR and CPI certification
• Can work independently while being a team player
• Possess the skills to network with all resources to provide the best customer service with clients or family members seeking help
• Ensure a safe and clean working environment complying with OSHA, Plum Creek Recovery Ranch, and the RSS Scope of Practice
• Excellent customer service skills to handle continuous customer contact with the public, including citizens who may be ill or injured, upset, and/or distraught
• Exercise sound judgment and good problem-solving skills in pressure situations
• Communicate clearly and concisely with co-workers and the public
• Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards
• Exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities desirable
• Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
• Apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines
• Maintain a cooperative and positive attitude and approach with patients, family members, staff and visitors
• Manage conflict, negotiating "win-win" solutions
• Multi-task, prioritize with strong time management skills
• Exceptional follow through on tasks and assignments
• Perform the following with or without reasonable accommodations:
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips
• Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound
• Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
