About the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Web Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of modern, high-performance web applications. This role requires a strong technical leader who can collaborate with cross-functional teams, translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, and drive best practices across front-end development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, development, and ongoing support of enterprise web applications.
  • Serve as the technical lead for front-end design discussions and implementation decisions.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility of new features and provide scalable solution recommendations.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams to define development roadmaps and priorities.
  • Drive the adoption of modern development practices and coding standards.
  • Build responsive, high-performing web applications using React and Next.js.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that improve user experience and business outcomes.
  • Collaborate on experimentation initiatives, including A/B testing and feature optimization.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
  • Contribute to long-term architecture planning and technical strategy.
  • Support cloud-based deployments and CI/CD initiatives.
  • Utilize development tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, and AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
  • Ensure applications meet security, performance, accessibility, and SEO best practices.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced Agile development environment while maintaining a strong focus on the end-user experience.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building web applications with React.
  • Expert-level experience with:
    • React
    • Next.js
    • Tailwind CSS
    • REST APIs
    • Front-end performance optimization
    • Web security best practices
    • SEO optimization
  • Strong experience implementing responsive, highly performant web applications.
  • Experience with GraphQL and RESTful services.
  • Experience implementing feature flagging and design systems.
  • Strong knowledge of deployment strategies, testing methodologies, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Experience integrating third-party services such as payment gateways (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, etc.) and social authentication providers.
  • Strong understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Experience with Node.js and modern JavaScript development.
  • Familiarity with JAMstack architecture.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure and deployment environments.
  • Ability to debug complex production issues and optimize application performance.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with enterprise CMS platforms such as Sitecore or similar.
  • Experience within high-volume, consumer-facing digital environments.
  • Ability to understand cross-functional business dependencies and proactively identify technical risks.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across development teams.
