Principal Systems & Automation Engineer
About the role
We have an immediate need for an experienced Database Engineer with deep expertise in MongoDB to help shift legacy, manual security evaluation processes to an automated, continuous monitoring and assessment model. In this high-impact role, you will design, implement, and maintain enterprise MongoDB databases, optimize complex queries, lead the development of data parsing and loading software, and build high-availability storage architectures using modern cloud methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and sustain MongoDB databases in enterprise cloud environments.
- Optimize MongoDB performance through advanced indexing strategies, query profiling, and resource management.
- Configure and maintain high-availability architectures, including MongoDB replica sets, sharded clusters, and failover mechanisms.
- Develop database parser software, loading tools, and automated data processing workflows.
- Define document schemas, evaluate embedding vs. referencing relationships, and map data access patterns.
- Implement robust database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations.
- Analyze legacy manual processes and design automated workflows to replace them.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Intelligence Studies, Computer Science, Finance/Economics, or a related discipline, plus 10+ years of specialized data analytics or financial intelligence experience.
- OR High School Diploma / GED, plus 15+ years of hands-on intelligence analysis, financial tracking, and data discovery experience in lieu of a degree.
- Active security clearance at the TS/SCI polygraph level is required.

- MongoDB Architecture: Extensive hands-on experience designing, developing, implementing, and sustaining MongoDB databases.
- Performance & Query Tuning: Advanced knowledge of MongoDB performance optimization, indexing strategies, query profiling, and resource management.
- Replication & Sharding: Proven capability configuring and maintaining high-availability architectures, including MongoDB replica sets, sharded clusters, and failover mechanisms.
- Data Ingestion & Parsing: Demonstrated experience developing database parser software, database loading tools, and automated data processing workflows.
- Schema Design & Modeling: Strong experience defining document schemas, evaluating embedding vs. referencing relationships, and mapping data access patterns.
- Backup & Recovery: Practical experience implementing robust database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations.
- Automation & Analysis: Ability to analyze legacy manual processes and design automated workflows to replace them.

- Continuous Security Monitoring: Understanding of continuous monitoring, continuous assessment, and automated security authorization frameworks.
- Cloud Architecture: Experience applying Cloud methodologies for distributed data storage and retrieval.
- Agile Workflows: Practical experience working within an Agile team structure utilizing tools like Jira and Confluence for task tracking and team collaboration.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this role is $149,000–$177,000 (USD), which does not include discretionary bonus compensation. Actual compensation offered may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.
