Role Summary
As an Automation Engineer you will partner with teams across Cameo to identify inefficiencies, implement automation solutions, and optimize workflows. This role focuses on eliminating repetitive manual work and empowering employees to dedicate their time to high-value creative initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Analysis & Optimization: Collaborate with departments (Product, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Customer Success, and Talent Management—our team working directly with Cameo's celebrities and creators) to map workflows, identify bottlenecks, and uncover automation opportunities
- Tool Evaluation & Implementation: Research, evaluate, and deploy automation tools and platforms - (e.g., Retool, Zapier, Make, workflow automation software, RPA tools) that align with business needs
- Custom Automation Development: Build scripts, integrations, and automation solutions using languages like Python, JavaScript/NodeJS, or similar to connect systems and streamline operations
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with engineering, data, and business teams to ensure automation solutions integrate seamlessly with existing tech stack
- Documentation & Training: Create clear documentation and provide training to teams on new automated workflows and tools
- Continuous Improvement: Monitor automation performance, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions to maximize efficiency gains
- Strategic Roadmap: Develop and maintain an automation roadmap prioritizing high-impact initiatives aligned with company goals
Key Requirements
- Software engineering experience: 2-4 years writing production code in languages like Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or similar
- Problem-solving mindset: Ability to understand business problems and translate them into technical solutions
- API fluency: Experience working with APIs, integrations, and connecting different systems together
- Communication skills: Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-directed: Comfortable with ambiguity, able to scope and prioritize work independently
- Curiosity & eagerness to learn: Interest in exploring new tools, technologies, and approaches to solve efficiency problems
- AI-assisted development: 6+ months of hands-on experience using Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, - - Cursor, or equivalent AI coding assistants as part of a regular development workflow
Nice to Have
- Experience building automation solutions, workflow tools, or internal tooling
- Hands-on experience with automation platforms (Zapier, Make, Power Automate, Workato, or similar)
- Experience with RPA (Robotic Process Automation) tools
- Familiarity with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data manipulation
- Background in operations, consulting, or process improvement
- Knowledge of workflow automation in SaaS or marketplace businesses
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment

Pay
The salary range for this position is $145,000 to $175,000 with opportunities for additional compensation based on performance.
Schedule
Cameo determines salary ranges by role and level with ranges for US roles typically based on our home market of Chicago. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within that range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and training.
