Principal/ Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer – Mission Processing

Relocation assistance may be available. This position requires an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance. Travel is required, approximately 10% of the time.

About the Role

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Electronics Engineer – Mission Processing to join our team in Melbourne, FL. This on-site position supports program and business needs with no hybrid or remote work available. The selected engineer will work on a 9/80 schedule, receiving every other Friday off.

This role involves in-depth knowledge of computers and electronics for mission processing, including displays, data storage, networks, CDS/MLS, and crypto. The engineer will be responsible for defining, designing, integrating, testing, and certifying related hardware and software requirements. Key responsibilities include interpreting and flowing down system requirements, designing system models, performing hardware integration and testing, and collaborating with Integrated Product Teams.

Responsibilities

• Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
• Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders to integrate mission management subsystems to meet platform mission objectives.
• Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration, and test support.
• Develop supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work.
• Build supplier evaluation criteria and conduct technical evaluations, documenting results and selection.
• Review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
• Interpret, allocate, tailor, write, and flow down requirements to all levels of a system architecture.
• Design and develop computer, network, and system models and architectures.
• Perform hardware integration and testing, and requirements analysis.
• Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams and conduct trade studies.
• Document subsystem architectures, analyze performance, and evaluate Technology Readiness Level (TRL) regarding supplier current and future product offerings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
• Principal level: 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering (3 years with a Master’s degree).
• Sr. Principal level: 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering (6 years with a Master’s degree).
• Experience developing model-based systems engineering products and/or Mission Engineering in Cameo or similar tools.
• Experience with developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work.
• Experience with Mission Processing, Network and Communication design, development, and test methodologies and practices.
• Active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with network, commercial cloud, platform infrastructures, and containerized software architecture.
• Familiarity with Digital Engineering processes and environments.
• Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation, and interface control documentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work well in a close team environment.
• Experience engaging directly with internal and external technical and programmatic representatives.
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and work in a self-directed manner.
• Experience in model-based systems engineering using Cameo or similar SysML tools.
• Familiarity with Atlassian collaboration tools (Jira and Confluence).
• Experience and/or certification with cloud and container management & security technologies such as VMWare, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, Redhat OpenShift, Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, or Nomad.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
