This role offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced mission-processing and electronics systems supporting complex aerospace and defense platforms. You will work across requirements, architectures, hardware and software integration, testing, and system certification. The position combines hands-on engineering with technical coordination across internal teams, suppliers, and strategic program partners.

About the role

You will help shape mission-processing architectures involving computers, networks, communications, data storage, displays, and related technologies. The environment is highly collaborative, technically challenging, and focused on delivering reliable systems for mission-critical applications. You will also evaluate emerging technologies, conduct trade studies, and contribute to model-based and digital engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Define, interpret, allocate, tailor, document, and flow down hardware and software requirements across system architectures, ensuring alignment with mission and platform objectives.
  • Design and develop computer, network, and system models and architectures supporting mission processing, communications, data storage, displays, and related systems.
  • Perform requirements analysis, hardware integration, testing, troubleshooting, and technical assessments to ensure system performance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, integrated product teams, program stakeholders, and technical representatives to integrate mission-management subsystems and resolve technical challenges.
  • Lead technical activities involving strategic suppliers and partners, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration, and test support.
  • Develop supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, statements of work, technical requirements, and evaluation criteria.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of supplier capabilities, document findings, and support supplier selection and performance assessments.
  • Review supplier development documentation and participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and other engineering forums.
  • Apply model-based systems engineering and mission engineering approaches using Cameo or comparable tools to document architectures, interfaces, and system behavior.
  • Conduct trade studies, analyze system performance, evaluate technology readiness levels, and assess current and emerging supplier technologies.
  • Contribute to digital engineering initiatives and the integration of network, cloud, containerized, and mission-processing technologies where applicable.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, risks, and decisions clearly to engineering, program, supplier, and leadership stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with at least 5 years of related engineering or military experience for the Principal level, or a Master’s degree with at least 3 years of related experience.
  • For the Sr. Principal level, a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with at least 8 years of related engineering or military experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years of related experience.
  • Experience developing model-based systems engineering products and/or mission engineering solutions using Cameo or similar SysML-based tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with mission processing, network and communications design, development, integration, and test methodologies.
  • Experience developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, statements of work, and technical evaluation criteria.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering practices, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation, interface control documentation, architecture development, and system integration.
  • An active U.S. Government Secret clearance is required at the start of employment, with a qualifying recent background investigation or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance and any additional program access required for the position.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure, commercial cloud platforms, platform infrastructure, and containerized software architectures is preferred.
  • Experience with cloud and container technologies such as VMware, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon ECS, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, or Nomad is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering environments and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external technical and program stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities, combined with the ability to learn new concepts quickly and work independently.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Benefits

  • Primary-level base salary range of $98,400–$147,600 USD.
  • Secondary-level base salary range of $122,800–$184,200 USD.
  • Potential eligibility for overtime, shift differentials, and discretionary annual bonuses based on applicable position and performance criteria.
  • Health insurance coverage and access to life and disability insurance.
  • Savings and retirement plan options.
  • Company-paid holidays and paid time off for vacation or personal business.
  • Relocation assistance may be available.
  • 9/80 work schedule, providing every other Friday off.
  • On-site work in Melbourne, Florida, with no hybrid or remote option for this position.
  • Opportunity to work on technically sophisticated, mission-critical aerospace and defense systems.
  • Collaborative environment with exposure to advanced systems engineering, digital engineering, cloud, networking, and mission-processing technologies.
