About the role

The New York City office of Stantec is seeking a Principal level, Senior Civil Engineer with 25 plus years of progressive experience to lead the pursuit and delivery of complex urban infrastructure across the NYC metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee portfolios as Project Executive/Technical Lead, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality, with rigorous QA/QC across your projects and peer reviews across the practice.
  • Collaborate with NY/CT/NJ transportation leadership to advance integrated roadway planning and engineering efforts, helping establish consistent processes and identifying gaps in regional roadway expertise.
  • Serve as Principal in Charge, Project Manager, and/or Engineer of Record (EOR) on multidiscipline civil projects (streetscapes, roadways, transit/rail, waterfronts, site/campus development), directing standards, calculations, and sealed deliverables; lead technical reviews of design components (geometrics, grading/drainage, utilities, stormwater, traffic/MPT, and constructability).
  • Drive strong financial performance by applying rigorous Project Management principles—controlling financial impact, minimizing at-risk work, and leveraging project controls effectively.
  • Chair coordination meetings with clients and agency stakeholders; secure approvals and guide permitting strategies.
  • Activate and grow trusted relationships across NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDDC, NYCEDC, NYCDOB, and regional partners (MTA agencies, Port Authority), advancing pursuits and programmatic frameworks.
  • Lead account planning and capture for high value pursuits; develop win strategies, teaming (including competitor/peer firms where strategic), scopes, budgets, and narratives.
  • Support bi-monthly progress tracking on key account net revenue, sales, and business development spending to drive disciplined and predictable account performance.
  • Grow a high performing team; foster strong people leadership by mentoring emerging leaders, supporting supervisor-direct report alignment, and contributing to career development pathways.

Requirements

  • 25 plus years in civil engineering with documented EOR responsibility on complex urban infrastructure in NYC or comparable Tier1 metro areas.
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (New York State preferred or able to obtain within 6 months of start date).
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidiscipline design and construction support; mastery of civil design tools (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroStation/ORD), and agency standards (DOT/DEP/DDC; plus, MTA/PA where applicable).
  • Proven business development track record bringing in work via client/agency/developer/competitor relationships; history of leading proposals, interviews, and negotiations.

Pay

$162,000.00 - $243,100.00 Annually
