Principal Product Manager - Credit
About the role
As a Principal Product Manager for the Credit team at Marqeta, you will own the end-to-end strategy for our credit platform — defining the multi-quarter roadmap that scales core credit services to meet the evolving needs of our customers and partners. You are a recognized thought leader in credit and fintech, bringing forward-thinking ideas grounded in market dynamics, regulatory realities, and deep technical fluency. This is an individual contributor role where you will mentor others on the team and drive prioritization across a complex web of stakeholders, make clear-eyed risk/reward decisions, and set the standard for how great credit infrastructure products are built and delivered at scale. We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely.
Responsibilities
- Shape the Credit Platform Roadmap — Define, own and deliver the multi-quarter strategy for credit platform core services, aligning prioritization with client needs, business objectives, and regulatory requirements.
- Define Requirements That Scale — Author detailed product requirements and technical documentation that guide engineering teams building robust backend systems, APIs, and data models for credit account management and transaction processing.
- Drive Cross-Functional Execution — Lead coordination across engineering, GTM, operations, legal, compliance, and risk to move new credit products and features from concept to market with rigor and accountability.
- Shape architecture as a peer to engineering. Partner with engineering leaders on decisions affecting account management, transaction processing, and data integrity, and own the product consequences of those choices.
- Champion the Customer — Engage directly with external customers and internal stakeholders to surface needs, validate solutions, and ensure delivered features create measurable value.
- Make Data-Informed Decisions — Use analytics and product metrics to identify platform gaps, measure feature impact, and continuously sharpen prioritization across the credit roadmap.
- Represent credit externally. Be Marqeta's credit voice with enterprise clients, issuing banks, and networks. Bring market and regulatory signal into the roadmap before it turns into a client escalation.
- Lead across teams without direct reports. Align engineering, GTM, operations, legal, compliance, and risk across multiple teams. You own the outcome even when you don't manage the people.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of product management experience in fintech or payments, with demonstrated experience working with networks and banks in a leadership capacity.
- Proven track record of shipping technically complex credit products and/or platforms at scale within multi-stakeholder, regulated ecosystems.
- Domain thought leader with the ability to identify market opportunities in credit, translate them into actionable strategy, and bring stakeholders along.
- Strong executive presence with experience influencing senior leadership, external customers, and cross-functional partners including legal, compliance, and risk.
- Deep technical acumen and genuine curiosity — comfortable engaging with APIs, data models, system architecture, AI/ML applications, and emerging technologies as a credible product voice.
- Bias for action in ambiguous situations — able to move teams forward through internal and external roadblocks with clarity and accountability.
- Prior experience building or scaling credit-as-a-service or embedded credit products for enterprise clients or card program managers.
