About the role

The Credit Products Manager (CPM) oversees first-line credit underwriting and portfolio management within an assigned business, including Corporate Banking and Regional Commercial Banking. This role ensures alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and business objectives, manages a team of underwriters and credit professionals, and leverages data-driven insights to identify emerging risks and opportunities. The CPM collaborates with sales, risk, and technology teams to drive responsible growth, improve underwriting processes, and enhance credit product offerings while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational execution.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains visibility and deep knowledge of bank relationships within the assigned Line of Business (LOB) to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Executes strategic priorities set by leadership to align with enterprise goals.
  • Proactively identifies and escalates areas for improvement in credit processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains the credit quality of assigned portfolios and/or lending verticals by overseeing underwriting, portfolio management, and risk monitoring activities.
  • Establishes and fosters a shared vision across assigned regions and verticals, ensuring consistency in credit decisioning and risk management practices.
  • Attracts, develops, and retains top talent within Credit Products by providing leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborates closely with Sales, Credit Products, and Risk teams to drive responsible growth, optimize credit decisioning, and enhance portfolio performance.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for deal flow assignment, credit risk reviews, and escalations, ensuring timely and well-informed credit decisions.
  • Leverages data-driven insights and analytics to identify emerging credit risks and opportunities, proactively adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Demonstrates expertise in legal documentation (e.g., Credit Agreements) and develops junior associates while interacting with internal/external legal counsel and negotiating terms with clients.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk frameworks while supporting continuous process improvements.
  • Provides credit risk reporting and analysis to senior leadership, contributing to portfolio strategy and risk management discussions.
  • Partners with legal and compliance teams to align underwriting and portfolio management practices with regulatory requirements.
  • Supports senior leadership in delivering portfolio analysis and reporting for strategic decision-making.
  • Recruits, develops, and trains top credit underwriting and portfolio management talent.
  • Performs special projects, including continuous improvement and transformation initiatives, and additional duties as required.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and completes required compliance trainings.
  • Maintains accountability for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in Business, Economics, or a related field; Master's Degree (or Postgraduate equivalent) preferred.
  • 12+ years of 1st line of defense credit underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management experience within the Financial Industry, including credit strategy and credit analytics.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams of credit analysts and underwriters in a specialty vertical.
  • 5+ years of experience in a direct specialized line of business (e.g., specialized commercial industries, capital markets, corporate commercial banking).
  • Experience and expertise in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, credit and cash flow modeling for underwriting and portfolio management decisions, income/identity verification, and loss forecasting.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to credit decisions, ensuring compliance in underwriting and portfolio management.
  • For certain LOBs (e.g., Corporate Banking and Specialized Industries), a strong working knowledge of the syndicated loan market and related processes.
  • Proficiency in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, underwriting models, and portfolio management strategies, with experience in income/identity verification and risk assessment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate credit analysis into actionable strategies and policies for key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to business strategy by incorporating industry knowledge and market trends into credit risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and execute tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills, fostering collaboration, coaching, and professional growth within the credit team.

Pay

Pay Range: $168,368.25 - $273,681.00
