Principal Performance Engineer
About the role
The Principal Performance Engineer will play a crucial role in building the technology and architecture of Fidelity Stock Transfer’s end-to-end systems. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this individual will be part of a dynamic team focused on innovation and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-performance, scalable systems using Java and Spring Boot
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and distributed systems
- Execute performance/load tests and debug complex issues
- Write and improve production-quality code, utilizing tools like k6, Gatling, JMeter, and Node.js
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between functional correctness and non-functional requirements
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and test automation efforts
- Test cloud-native applications and understand their observability
- Communicate performance insights to influence design decisions
Requirements
- Strong Java development experience
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and distributed systems
- Experience with performance/load testing tools (k6, Gatling, JMeter)
- Familiarity with Node.js and frontend technologies (Angular, React)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation
- Knowledge of cloud-native applications and observability tools
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- A developer-first mindset with a strong interest in performance engineering
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and improve production-quality code
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools
- Understanding of observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing)
- Comfortable stepping into existing codebases and improving them
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
