Principal Building Performance Engineer
About the role
The Living & Learning Division is seeking a highly experienced Professional Engineer (PE) to serve as a senior technical leader supporting building performance, sustainability, resiliency, and infrastructure initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide expertise across mechanical systems, energy, building science, and emerging technologies, helping clients improve the long-term performance, reliability, and sustainability of their facilities.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, optimize, and modernize building systems while supporting the growth of the division's technical capabilities and market presence.
- Lead technical evaluations, investigations, and engineering studies for existing and new facilities.
- Develop innovative solutions that improve operational performance, occupant comfort, reliability, and lifecycle value.
- Advise project teams on emerging technologies, industry best practices, and evolving codes and standards.
- Support strategic planning efforts related to facility investments, asset management, and long-term capital improvements.
- Mentor engineers and technical staff while promoting technical excellence throughout the organization.
- Review and provide quality assurance for engineering analyses, reports, and recommendations.
- Support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal development, presentations, and thought leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships with public-sector, educational, institutional, and private-sector clients.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience. Demonstrated expertise in building systems, mechanical infrastructure, and facility performance. Strong knowledge of sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and building science principles. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and complex technical assignments. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to develop trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and teaming partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering, Building Science, Sustainability, or related field.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, BCxP, CBCP, or similar credentials.
- Experience with educational, housing, healthcare, municipal, or institutional facilities.
- Knowledge of advanced building technologies, smart buildings, analytics, automation systems, and digital solutions.
- Experience supporting grant-funded, federally funded, or public-sector programs.
