Principal Performance Engineer
About the role
The Principal Performance Engineer will play a crucial role in building and maintaining high-performance systems at Fidelity Stock Transfer. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the systems meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and performant services using Spring Boot and other relevant technologies.
- Execute performance/load tests using k6, Gatling, JMeter, or similar tools to identify bottlenecks and optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with the team to design and implement CI/CD pipelines and test automation scripts.
- Work with observability tools to monitor and improve system performance and reliability.
- Bridge the gap between functional correctness and non-functional requirements, influencing design decisions based on performance insights.
- Improve existing codebases and contribute to the overall quality of the engineering team's work.
Requirements
- Strong Java development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and other relevant technologies.
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
- Experience designing and executing performance/load tests.
- Strong debugging and profiling skills.
- Experience with k6, Gatling, JMeter, or similar performance testing tools.
- Familiarity with Node.js and frontend technologies like Angular and React.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation.
- Knowledge of cloud-native applications (containers, microservices).
- Experience testing cloud-native applications.
- Understanding of observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- A developer-first mindset with a strong interest in performance engineering.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Schedule
This role is currently available on a full-time, onsite basis. However, the company is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles.
