About the role
The Principal, People Operations at Hut 8 will be responsible for the transactional and compliance aspects of the employee experience. This includes onboarding, offboarding, HRIS transactions, employment compliance, and leave, benefits, and payroll administration.
Responsibilities
- Onboard employees end to end, including paperwork, I-9, background checks, system setup, Day 1, and relocation.
- Offboard employees end to end, including separation documents, access removal, equipment, final pay, and termination workflows.
- Manage HRIS transactions and ensure complete, retained employee records.
- Prepare termination letters and separation documentation, process resignation paperwork, and produce employee records upon request.
- Handle multi-state employment administration, including I-9s, notices, recordkeeping, and state-specific documentation.
- Administer leave of absences with external providers such as Sedgwick, Lincoln, and MetLife.
- Support benefits enrollment with Total Rewards and deliver pay-impacting changes ahead of payroll cutoff.
- Respond to employee requests and provide guidance on policies and procedures.
- Participate in recurring audits of employee data and files, ensuring audit readiness and reporting.
- Propose and implement process improvements to reduce manual work and enhance efficiency.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4+ years in People / HR Operations with personal ownership of both onboarding and offboarding.
- Hands-on HRIS transactions (Workday, UKG, ADP, Paylocity, BambooHR or similar): processed changes, not requested them.
- Direct I-9 verification and I-9 recordkeeping experience.
- Multi-state US employment administration, including state-specific documentation and notices.
- Employee records and personnel files kept to a standard that holds up when someone asks for evidence.
- Intermediate Excel or Sheets skills: lookups, pivots, reconciliation between two systems.
- Proven discretion with compensation, medical, leave, and separation information.
- Writes clearly enough that an employee-facing letter or policy goes out without a rewrite.
Preferred qualifications
- Public company, high-growth, or multi-site experience, especially one that hired into new states fast.
- Experience responding to audits (internal, external, SOX, I-9, benefits).
- Supporting an hourly or site-based population alongside corporate.
- LOA administration with an external provider (Sedgwick, Lincoln, MetLife).
- Relocation coordination.
- HRIS implementation or migration.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
