Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a MAP Principal Liaison Engineer A220 to join our A220 Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL.

About the role

The Principal Liaison Engineer (MAP) is responsible for the development and approval of solutions related to aircraft non-conformities which require engineering expertise and delegation to be resolved. The MAP Engineer represents a particular engineering specialty including, but not limited to: Aircraft Systems, Cabin, Electrical and Mechanical Installation, and Structures.

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Creation, approval, and authorization (release) of technical solutions including justification reports for repairs, reworks, troubleshooting instructions, and the identification, explanation, resolution, and documentation of anomalies delivered with the aircraft to the design office and authorities (EASA, FAA, or Transport Canada TC).
  • Involvement in all aircraft systems and structures (metallic/composite).
  • Analysis of all reported malfunctions of aircraft systems/structures and initiation of troubleshooting activities.
  • Representation of all design offices, subcontractors, and risk-sharing partners.
  • Acting as the interface between the design organization and the manufacturing organization on behalf of the Single Aisle Chief Engineer/Design Office.
  • Creation, checking, approval, and release of technical design solutions.
  • Support for the FAL US from the delivery of aircraft sections, through the FAL process, flight line activities, and up to the ferry flight, including customer presentations as needed.
  • Creation, validation, approval, and monitoring of corrective actions (e.g., new modifications, drawing updates, design query notes, improvements, and avoidance of recurrent issues).
  • Creation of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with airworthiness requirements.
  • Use of manuals (Aircraft Wiring List, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog) for research and verification.
  • Management of non-conformities (NCs) written by production/quality departments or Flight Test Engineers for deviations/damages detected during assembly, inspection, or production flights.
  • Performance of specific tasks based on individual skills and experience, including onsite service, cost center management, flight clearance prerequisites, employee training on new aircraft design and production techniques, process improvements, MRB audits, etc.
  • Demonstration of knowledge and experience to obtain delegation from the Design Office for engineering activities under MRB.
  • Execution of intermediate to complex engineering assignments requiring familiarity with several fields of engineering.
  • Conducting research into various engineering fields to investigate, re-evaluate, and apply results to solve practical problems.
  • Identification and reporting of defects and deficiencies in work done by others.
  • Preparation of progress reports and recommendation of changes in plans and specifications to suit special conditions.
  • Development of innovative engineering techniques and generation of documentation for approval by others.
  • Review of sections of documents prepared by others and recommendation of approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 13+ years of experience or demonstrated knowledge and competency for the required level of experience.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification preferred.
  • 10% domestic and international travel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in implementing and using indication, alert, and recording systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of engine, fuel, pneumatic, APU, hydraulic, cabin systems, and advanced metallic/composite aerospace structures.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and configuration management rules.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and solving problems.
  • Ability to function on the basis of self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work across traditional boundaries.
  • CATIA experience preferred.
  • Ability to plan activities on a short- and mid-term basis.
  • Upon completion of training, support for evening or weekend shifts (working hours subject to future change).
