Responsibilities

  • Provide a diversified range of technical services to internal and external customers to support Company and division goals.
  • Make disposition decisions for referred, non-conforming, and off-standard material, including RMRs and customer claims.
  • Deliver training and education to key customers.
  • Lead and mentor less-experienced staff, peers, and project teams.
  • Apply statistical methods and experimental design to detect project inefficiencies.
  • Manage functional project teams to address and solve complex technical problems, including alloy and process development, with project planning and budget compliance.
  • Recognize and communicate technical risk to management.
  • Use SPC, Six Sigma, and/or BPI tools to improve processes.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (required).
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience (required).
  • Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and production equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the newest and latest technologies in the field.
  • Functional knowledge of statistics, Six Sigma, and/or BPI practices.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and develop creative solutions in non-standard situations.
  • Strong customer focus, with the ability to anticipate needs and identify new solutions.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize tasks, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to travel and access mill and manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to assist others in statistical methods and experimental design.
  • Ability to provide training and education to key customers.
  • Ability to lead and guide peers, customers, and managers in key projects and opportunities.
  • Self-directed with the ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and participate in project teams effectively.
  • Ability to reliably deliver results on schedule.
  • Ability to use SPC, Six Sigma, and/or BPI tools to eliminate waste.
  • Ability to recognize, measure, and communicate technical risk and recommend actions.
  • Ability to predict future needs for alloy development and identify potential new products, processes, and partners.
