Principal IP Laws Consultant
About the role
Delivering expert IP law guidance to some of Clarivate’s largest and most complex US-based clients.
Combining hands-on IP law implementation with high-impact client engagement, supporting governance, risk mitigation, and continuity for high-value accounts.
Serving as a critical bridge between clients and internal teams, including Customer Success, Account Management, and Technical Consultants, ensuring timely resolution of urgent issues.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and demonstrate expert understanding of at least one IPMS - Memotech (to start with) both from legal subject matter and product functionality perspective.
- Key participant in collaborating with product teams to strategize future developments on system enhancements and product evolution, keeping customer interests in mind.
- Improve the customer experience & drive for customer retention by enhancing satisfaction with IP Laws via expeditious resolution of client inquiries.
- Serve as the IP Laws subject matter expert in client meetings, with responsibility for tracking and managing the end-to-end execution, strategizing, and problem-solving of client issues.
- Manage client issues through Salesforce case creation, maintaining a client issues tracker, and collaborating across teams (including IP Renewals, Product/Technical Support, EDT, Supplier Management, and CSMs) to ensure timely resolution and delivery.
- Follow IP Laws Salesforce processes to accurately track and process support tickets.
- Provide guidance and support to CSMs to help resolve customer issues effectively.
- Participate in bi-weekly/monthly touch base with CSMs, product leads, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with other Memotech IP Laws Consultants to deliver timely, comprehensive responses to client inquiries, including direct communication and client education when required.
- Attend in-person, customer-facing events, conferences, and client visits—primarily in the US—to deliver IP Laws information sessions.
- Draft & test requirements definitions for IP law updates (particularly client support-driven cases) to support timely, high quality IP law releases.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of product documentation including Best Practice guides and Docketing guides.
- Liaise with Product teams on new system functionality needs and manage stakeholder engagement for change deployment; working closely with software developers to escalate and resolve system and functionality issues and manage stakeholder engagement for change deployment.
- Interact with software developers to escalate and resolve issues in the functionality and programming of the software.
- Participate in post-production issue review meetings with Memotech.
- Capture, track, and report key metrics related to Memotech law implementations.
- Participate in strategic initiative projects across the IP Laws team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree Law, Intellectual Property, or related field or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 7+ years of experience in the intellectual property industry.
- 5+ years of experience with portfolio management software (preferably Memotech), docketing practice, or IP Law calculations.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Patent rules and procedures of the USPTO, EPO, PCT, WIPO and other national and international governing bodies.
Qualifications
- Experience with IP consulting, or with client management, with the ability to navigate complex & challenging clients’ situations.

Full Time, Permanent position.
Compensation - US Only: The expected base salary for this position is $108,000 - $130,000 USD per year. This role is eligible for bonus earnings. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill and ability, expertise, and relevant factors. Compensation - Canada Only: The expected base salary for this position is $112,000 - $135,000 CAD per year. This role is eligible for bonus earnings. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill and ability, expertise, and relevant factors.
