About the Role

Microchip is seeking a Principal Engineer - Applications to join our team with expertise in troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of time and frequency systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in customer support, project management, and technical documentation. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality solutions in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, install, configure, and transition/commission time and frequency equipment and systems at customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to time and frequency systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and repairs to optimize system performance.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support and training to customers and end-users.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, service reports, and project records.
  • Lead/Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards during all field operations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, providing updates, guidance, and technical expertise.
  • Travel as required for customer support (including occasional short-notice travel).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in field engineering, specifically with time and frequency systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  • Proficiency with relevant tools, software, and equipment for time and frequency systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in customer support, project management, and technical documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with GPS, frequency standards, clocks, NTP/PTP servers, etc.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, time interval and frequency counters, digital multimeters.
  • Experience with Linux scripting and Python.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Visio.
  • Familiarity with project management and customer service principles.

Travel

0% - 25% travel time required for customer support (including occasional short-notice travel).

Physical Requirements

  • Involves working both alone and around others.
