Principal Economist, Stores Economics and Science
About the role
This role will contribute to developing the Economics and Science products and services in the Fee domain, with specialization in supply chain systems and fees. Through the lens of economics, you will develop causal links for how Amazon, Sellers and Customers interact. You will be a key and senior scientist, advising Amazon leaders how to price our services. You will work on developing frameworks and scalable, repeatable models supporting optimal pricing and policy in the two-sided marketplace that is central to Amazon's business.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to developing the Economics and Science products and services in the Fee domain, specializing in supply chain systems and fees.
- Develop causal links between Amazon, Sellers, and Customers through the lens of economics.
- Advise Amazon leaders on pricing strategies for their services.
- Work with science and technology teams across Amazon, including Advertising, Supply Chain, Operations, Prime, Consumer Pricing, and Finance, to integrate economic insights into policy and systems production.
- Partner with partner teams to design pricing policy changes.
- Lead the development of causal models to help isolate the impact of fee and policy changes from other business actions, using experiments when possible, or observational data when not.
Requirements
- PhD in Economics, Computer Science, or highly related field (Statistics, Finance, Math)
- Experience with big data and machine learning or data science
- Coding ability in a scripting language such as R or Python or STATA
Qualifications
- Extensive Economics knowledge
- Demonstrated strength in practical and policy relevant structural econometrics
- Strong collaboration skills
- Prominent ability to lead highly ambiguous and large projects
- A drive to deliver results
Skills
- Familiarity with systems and services that constitute seller supply chains is a plus but not required.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. USA, CA, Palo Alto - 217,800.00 - 294,700.00 USD annually
USA, NY, New York - 208,300.00 - 281,800.00 USD annually
USA, WA, Seattle - 189,400.00 - 256,200.00 USD annually
