About the role
The position serves as both a Principal Admitting Worker for Transfer Center functions and a Patient Placement Coordinator for Patient Placement functions under the general direction of both the Transfer Center and Patient Placement Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Screening all incoming patient transfers to UCSF Medical Center, processing transfer requests and admissions, confirming insurance eligibility, following up on inpatient authorization, and counseling patients and their families regarding their financial liability.
- Counseling patients and/or their families regarding their financial liability and securing deposits on self-pay and/or collecting patient liability portions for routine/elective admissions.
- Serving as the first point of contact for incoming requests for patient transfer and direct admits to UCSF Medical Center.
- Completing Transfer Center intake, registration information, and financial clearance.
- Performing admission reconciliation for the units, patient class updates, and financial clearance.
- Assisting with time-sensitive issues related to patient flow requiring “Grand Central” knowledge and expertise of admission, transfer, and discharge system functionality.
Requirements
- HS Diploma and six years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree and four years of related experience.
- Proficiency in health insurance eligibility and authorization requirements.
- Proficiency in reimbursement financial policies.
- ADT experience required, knowledge of office machines; typing 30 wpm.
- Basic PC skills.
- Ability to problem solve; ability to analyze data and recommend changes.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to follow instructions; work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Articulate and concise oral communication and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work in San Francisco.
- Preferred: Bilingual capability.
- Previous experience in a hospital setting.
- Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Knowledge of government program regulations, MediCal, Medicare, MIA, CCS, and other third-party payors.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include an HS Diploma and six years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree and four years of related experience. Proficiency in health insurance eligibility and authorization requirements, reimbursement financial policies, and ADT experience are required. Basic PC skills, problem-solving abilities, and customer service skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include bilingual capability and previous hospital experience.
