Admitting Worker, Principal
About the role
The Principal Admitting Worker works under the supervision of the Admission and Registration Supervisor and the Patient Care Unit Manager. They are generally assigned to a primary work unit but may rotate or be assigned to any area or site as outlined in the Admitting Department Expectations.
Responsibilities
- Greet, identify, check-in, and register patients.
- Coordinate escort upon arrival for services and/or after triage by the nurse.
- Gather financial and demographic information during the registration process.
- Enter information quickly and accurately into the computer system.
- Utilize various hospital information systems to communicate with patients and visitors.
- Respond effectively to inquiries.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or two years of relevant experience.
- Two (2) or more years of experience at the Sr. Admitting Worker or comparable level.
- Proficiency in health insurance eligibility and authorization requirements.
- Proficiency in reimbursement of financial policies.
- ADT experience required.
- Knowledge of office machines; typing 30 wpm.
- Basic PC skills.
- Ability to solve problems; analyze data and recommend changes.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to follow instructions; work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Qualifications

Pay
Final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 9:00 to 5:30, and holidays when required.
Preferences
- Bilingual ability.
- Previous experience in a hospital setting.
- Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Knowledge of government program regulations, Medicare, MIA, CCS, and other third-party payors.
