About the Role

Provide treatment for patients with behavioral health and/or substance use disorders and their families through assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, crisis assessment, and intervention. The direction of treatment and extent of contact are determined by the treatment plan developed with the patient and/or family. Therapists use their clinical individuality while working effectively with the team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs, strengths, abilities, and preferences to develop appropriate clinical interventions and a plan of care.
  • Use evidence-based practices to assist patients in achieving their identified goals.
  • Assess and manage crises for patients and support others in crisis intervention.
  • Teach and model symptom management, communication, and social skills.
  • Utilize active listening skills and empathetic communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Organize work and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Set and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Think critically and apply current DSM diagnostic criteria.
  • Navigate the electronic medical record system.
  • Adhere to Duty of Care requirements, including a minimum of two years away from clinical duties after acknowledging a problem or relapse, along with treatment completion.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR and Safe Crisis Intervention for Patient and Professionals (SCIPP) certification within 90 days of employment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling or related field.
  • Provisional licensure by the state of Georgia (LAPC, LMSW, LAMFT).
  • For PHP, IOP, or Inpatient roles: National Certification, certification as a Registered Art Therapist, or a bachelor’s degree with certification equivalent to CAC II is accepted.
  • Familiarity with the continuum of care.
  • Knowledge of the most current DSM diagnostic criteria.

  • Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC)
  • Certified Addiction Counselor - Level II (CAC II)
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
  • Registered Art Therapist (ATR)
  • Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT)
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification
  • Safe Crisis Intervention for Patient and Professionals (SCIPP) certification
