Prevention Specialist

About the role

This position works collaboratively with key individuals, coalitions, schools, organizations, and community partners to implement evidence-based prevention strategies using the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the five steps of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) to support community prevention efforts:
    • Assess profile population needs, resources, and community readiness.
    • Identify prevention needs, gaps, and priorities through data collection and analysis.
    • Mobilize and strengthen community coalitions and partnerships.
    • Engage stakeholders and build community support for prevention initiatives.
    • Affirmative, establish goals, objectives, and evidence-based strategies to address identified needs.
    • Carefully coordinate and support evidence-based prevention programs, activities, and campaigns.
    • Provide training and technical assistance to community partners and stakeholders.
    • Monitor and evaluate prevention efforts and outcomes.
    • Support continuous quality improvement and sustainability planning.
    • Recommend improvements or replacement of programs that do not achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Degree in Human Relations, Prevention, Public Health, Social Services, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Must obtain Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification within 24 months of employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse community partners.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Education and Certification Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required. Must obtain Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certification within 24 months of employment.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to travel for training, meetings, and job-related responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed for community events and trainings.
