About the role

The Prevention Specialist is responsible for the implementation of research-based and effective primary prevention programs and initiatives focused on interpersonal violence (sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking, and sexual harassment) for UNH-Durham undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering remote and in-person prevention and engagement programming to undergraduate and graduate student audiences

  • Facilitating the SHARPP Center’s primary prevention programming on topics such as consent, bystander intervention, and healthy relationships

  • Facilitating SHARPP Center outreach and engagement programming, such as SHARPP 101 and SHARPP Jeopardy

  • Serve as a member of the SHARPP Center Prevention & Engagement team

  • Support the Assistant Director of Engagement and Prevention with the planning, organizing, and facilitating of engagement efforts, awareness campaigns, and special events

  • Assist with the planning and co-facilitation of the annual “SHARPP Center Leaders Institute” training summit for new Community Educators

  • Support coordination of annual volunteer appreciation & recognition events

  • Attend NHCADSV Prevention Educator monthly meetings to represent the SHARPP Center and receive relevant updates and information regarding expectations for data, reporting, and compliance under relevant grants and program standards

  • Aid in the updating and submission of the SHARPP Center Rape Prevention Education (RPE) grant worksheets as required by the NHCADSV

  • Provide remote and in-person advocacy to UNH students, faculty and staff who have experienced interpersonal violence as needed

  • Participate in the SHARPP Center advocacy coverage rotation, responding to drop-ins, helpline calls, and appointments

  • Provide accompaniment, transportation, and support for survivors undergoing university disciplinary processes, sexual assault forensic exams, court appearances, and police interviews as needed by clients

  • Participate in biweekly SHARPP Center case review team meetings led by the Assistant Director of Advocacy

  • Collect and track data related to direct services provided per grant requirements

  • Aid the Assistant Director of Advocacy and Survivor Advocate with the training of volunteer Peer Advocates as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree

  • 2-4 years professional experience working on interpersonal violence prevention or related experience with primary prevention, public health, education, training and curriculum, and/or workshop facilitation

  • Required Licenses & Certifications: Confidentiality under NH RSA 173:C (30+ hours of training by a New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence crisis center) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Experience with delivering trainings or facilitating workshops; ability to comfortably educate audiences of various sizes and demographics around complex topics; Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and follow-through; Working knowledge of consent, bystander intervention, and interpersonal violence prevention theories and approaches; Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a positive outlook and working effectively in a collaborative environment; Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, especially PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably in public health, public policy, education, human services, social work, gender studies, recreation administration, or another related field

  • In-depth knowledge of interpersonal violence, Title IX, Clery Act, primary prevention strategies, the socio-ecological model of public health, and/or power-conscious frameworks

  • Experience working in a college/university setting

  • Experience with curriculum development and/or instructional design

  • Experience designing and updating Learning Management System content (Canvas or equivalent)

  • Experience supervising or managing students and/or volunteers
